Cooking & Housekeeping Domestic Helper — PMA

PMA places domestic helpers experienced in daily household cooking and management — matched on actual skills and food knowledge, not just availability.

What Cooking & Housekeeping Duties Cover

Cooking

  • Daily meal preparation — breakfast, lunch, dinner
  • Grocery management — market runs or grocery ordering, within the household budget
  • Halal cooking (for Indonesian helpers, this is typically second nature)
  • Dietary requirements — managing sodium, sugar, or other dietary needs as instructed
  • Preparing snacks and meals for children when applicable

Housekeeping

  • Daily sweeping, mopping, vacuuming
  • Laundry — washing, drying, ironing, folding
  • Kitchen cleaning — after each meal, weekly deep clean
  • Bathroom and toilet cleaning
  • General household tidying and organisation
  • Waste management — sorting, bagging, scheduling

Why Cooking Skills Are Not Assumed

One of the most common points of disappointment after a placement is a mismatch in cooking ability. "Can she cook?" is a question every family asks — but it is not binary. A helper who can cook Indonesian fried rice cannot necessarily prepare the specific Hokkien dishes or Chinese soups your household eats daily.

At PMA, we ask families to describe the type of cooking they actually need — not just "Malaysian food", but specific cuisines: Malay, Chinese (Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka), Indian, or a mix. We then match profiles based on the helper's documented cooking experience. Indonesian helpers typically arrive with strong halal Malay cooking backgrounds, which transfers well to most Malaysian households. For Chinese-cuisine-specific cooking, we note this clearly in what we assess and will be direct about whether a profile is a good match.

What to Discuss at Your Consultation

  • How many people are in the household eating at home daily?
  • What cuisines do you eat most — Malay, Chinese, Indian, Western?
  • Are there any dietary restrictions or health conditions affecting meals?
  • Do you want the helper to do the grocery shopping independently, or will you provide ingredients?
  • What is the size of your home — will cleaning take the majority of the day, or is cooking the primary focus?
  • Do any household members have specific allergies or strong food preferences?
